In ESL 118 you will learn the conventions for writing good summaries, arguments, and research papers. You will also learn critical reading skills and engage in many discussions of the material assigned in class. Since writing is a process, you will be asked to do outlines or proposals for your writing, submit multiple drafts of your papers, and engage in discussions with your classmates about your writing. This semester we will be covering one topic as a group, then you will choose a topic of your own to explore. A final important aspect of this course is developing the skill of orally describing your ideas and defending your positions. You will often be expected to talk about your writing informally, and you will give two prepared presentations using PowerPoint.

Since every student arrives in ESL 118 with different skills, backgrounds and expectations, I'd like to know more about you so that I can better tailor this course for your needs. Please answer the questions that follow as fully and honestly as you can. If you'd rather not answer, that is OK. The more I know about you and your unique attributes, the more I can help you succeed in this course.

Completing this quiz contributes two (2) points towards your Written Work grade.
