For the final summary reflection, we ask you to analyze your internship by responding in detail to three questions.
Using the word processor of your choice, write an essay that includes detailed response to each of the three questions below. You should write several paragraphs for each question; your whole essay should be several pages long.
Please note: Your responses to these questions should refer directly to at least one of the scholarly articles or news articles that you read this semester!
- First, reflect back on your internship and summarize your experience. How will you talk about the experience in the future when you apply and/or interview for new jobs and internships? Write several paragraphs about your internship in a way that would be appropriate for a cover letter for your next job.
- Now, review your fieldnotes and reflect on one experience you wrote about that looks different in hindsight. Maybe you were upset or annoyed at an experience that, in retrospect, you now appreciate. Or maybe you appreciated something then that, in retrospect, now seems more complicated or troubling. Write several paragraphs about your reflections on this experience.
- Finally, what’s the most important new insight you’ve articulated in your fieldnotes this semester? Begin by quoting yourself/your insight, then write several paragraphs discussing why you think this particular insight is likely to influence your thinking for years to come.
Instead of posting this essay to your fieldnotes "Discussion" board, you will turn in this essay through Canvas by uploading it using the "Submit" button on this assignment page. (This allows us to keep a separate record of these final essays and to grade them more efficiently. It also allows you to keep your frank, summative reflections on your internship just between you and the instructor, instead of sharing with your peers.)
Your internship might be continuing after the end of the term, but that's it for the academic work in this class. Thanks for being part of our internship course this term, and please keep in touch!
