This is the first of a two-semester course sequence introducing
students to Urban Agriculture as currently practiced in the United
States. No prerequisites are required and it is open to any UW-Madison student through enrollment in “meets with” Community & Environmental
Sociology Special Topics 375, Lecture 003. Enrollment is limited to 15 students.

The course consists of eight online, weekly two-hour sessions.
Students should expect an additional four hours per week for individual work on weekly assignments and one half-term-long activity.

Objective: The overall learning goal is to introduce concepts of, and approaches to, urban and periurban (farming on the suburban-rural edge) agriculture as an important part of a community’s local food system, with an emphasis on using urban farming to achieve food justice and social equity goals.
