Symbolizing the StreamType Value

Once you begin defining your perennial network, it is helpful to visualize the perennial and non-perennial segments differently.

    • For your flow network dataset, right-click to get Properties and then Symbology. Choose Unique Values by StreamType and change color and lineweight to differentiate perennial segments.
    • For example, in the image below, segments with a value of 1 are perennial and are colored a thick blue.  Streams with a value of 0 are ephemeral or intermittent and are colored a light green.

  • In order to ensure that you do not inadvertently choose features from other layers while editing, right-click on the flow network layer, choose Selection, and Make This The Only Selectable Layer.
  • Go segment by segment moving upstream, deciding where your perennial network is or where the channels of interest are for your needs. This method will help avoid missing any segments along the way.
