Why take a course on careers?

In this three-minute lecture clip from spring 2021, Professor Downey talks about the purpose of INTER-LS 210 and how it works.

The value of a liberal arts and sciences education

This is a 17-minute clip from a spring 2021 INTER-LS 210 lecture where Professor Downey discusses the value of a liberal arts and sciences education, no matter what your major and what your career.

What even is a career?

Our career stories are structured around different, overlapping, and sometimes contradictory metaphors about what we mean by the term "career" in the first place. It's good to be mindful of these metaphors, especially as you tell your career story to yourself! In this 4-minute lecture video from fall 2017, Prof. Downey talks about some of these career metaphors.

Introducing SuccessWorks

This brief 3-minute video introduces the College of Letters & Sciences career services center, called SuccessWorks, which is located on the third floor above University Book Store on campus.

Taking this course falls under Step 2, Create Your Toolkit, of the four Steps to Career Success.
