GNS351: First Semester Central Eurasian Language (002) DDD SU22
The Introductory Uyghur course will be focusing on developing communication skills in target language. The main goal of the first semester (first four weeks) is to familiarize students with the Uyghur Arabic alphabet, important phonetic rules, introduce basic grammar, and obtain four language skills such as speaking, listening, reading, and writing. The main aim of the second semester (another four weeks) of this course is to continue developing a foundation of Uyghur grammar and vocabulary. Students will learn new verb tenses along with other grammar constructions and new vocabulary. In addition to the textbook, some other authentic audio and video materials, and pictures, illustrating the cultural life of Uyghurs will be available. During the classes, learners will be given an opportunity for personal expression in the form of partner and group works.

LIS632: Metadata Standards and XML (001) DHH SU22
Upon completion of the course, students will: * Understand standards, concepts and types of metadata * Recognize various metadata schemes, controlled vocabularies, and element sets and evaluate their appropriateness in specific domains * Apply Dublin Core and MODS metadata to digital objects, using basic XML and RDF encodings * Crosswalk metadata between two metadata schemes, and document that crosswalk for others * Understand the structure of and be able to add information to Wikidata * Select and document a metadata scheme for use with a particular collection or digital library, based on an understanding of the information needs and behaviors of individuals and user communities * Select and implement appropriate controlled vocabularies; assess representation and inclusion in controlled vocabularies * Understand major factors in management of digital-collections metadata, including project leadership, needed skills, project management approaches, quality control, and collaboration
